The Leadership Team

Bryan Spurr

Bryan is the lead elder.  He became a Christian at university, at least 20 years ago (!)  He plays the tin whistle, and is one of several keen cyclists in the church, having conquered many long distance routes, both in this country and abroad.  Bryan and his wife Mandy have two grown up daughters, and a mad border collie called Phoebe.

Richard Tarn

Richard has his own boiler repair business.  He’s married to Ali, and is probably the fittest member of the church, despite being a grandfather, because he swims and cycles huge distances.

Ali Tarn

By a happy coincidence, Ali is married to Richard! They have three children, six grand-children and a dog called Millie!  In her ‘day-job’ she is a maths teacher and part of the management team at her school. At church she is one of the worship leaders and has been involved with a Christian dance group (when time permits!) for about 14 years.

 Ian Gillies

Ian Gillies is one of our worship leaders and is a surprisingly interesting, but retired, accountant.  His dog walks him every day.  He’s married to Anita, and they have three children, one grandson and four hens!

Claire Gallant

Claire is mother to Oliver and wife to Joe.  She works at Gateshead College managing contracts for training and learning.  She thinks she’s too young to be an elder so spends a lot of her energy working with the kids.

George Hawley

George been at West Denton Church since 2002.  He used to be an atheist until he watched a TV programme and realised Jesus had got hold of his life and wouldn’t let go. He’s good with numbers, which is handy, because he runs an online bookkeeping company, as well as being our treasurer.
