God-Incidences

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,  and he will make your paths straight.”

Do you believe in coincidences? Well, I don’t!  Since I became a Christian I have seen so many ‘coincidences’ that were simply too good to be true and I am now a firm believer in ‘Godincidences’. The definition of these is:

God-incidence n. [Pun on coincidence] Also Godincidence; *God-instance. A happy coincidence or outcome that is alleged to have been caused by God.

Why are we so often amazed and surprised when things happen? We know that we have a loving Father who delights to give His children good things. Psalm 84 vs 11: “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

When Richard and I were on holiday earlier this month we ‘just happened’ to be going downstairs to dinner at the same time as another couple. We were laughing as we raced each other down the stairs to see who would get there first and then discovered that we were eating at the same time in the same dining room, we struck up a friendship that night. As the holiday continued we met up for dinner most evenings, we got on well with the couple and they were open about their faith and family and we were able to reciprocate. Their company and friendship was the highlight of our holiday and we have continued the contact since our return home, planning to meet up again in the Autumn. I know that this meeting was not a coincidence and believe that God brought us together for a purpose.   When I look back over the years I have seen so many Godincidences that have encouraged me or saved me from potential difficulties.

When I looked further into this I came across this description ‘Sometimes the coolest blessings are the ones you don’t even pray for. Do you keep track of the Godincidences (or God-instances) and God winks that happen to you? God winks are similar. Those are when something good or special happens, and it feels like God caused it to happen just for that person. For example, suppose you’re feeling kind of low one day, and you turn on the radio and your favourite song is just starting to play. Or what if you meet someone new and it turns out you have a ton of things in common. God is in control of the entire universe, right? So these happy outcomes must be a small way He’s letting you know that He’s with you and thinking about you.’

Why not take time to reflect on Godinstances or God winks that you have experienced or look out for them. It would be great if you could let me know what God has been doing for you.  Have a blessed week. Ali
