A Love That Never Ends

Mandy and I have just returned from a relaxing break on the Norfolk Broads. There is something very peaceful about cruising along at a steady 4mph, surrounded by water and wildlife, especially when the sun is shining! Normally, I find the change in routine that comes with a holiday can cause me to struggle to meet with God each day, but sitting at the back of the boat, in such surroundings, I found it easy to draw near to God. In those moments I experienced the truth of James 4 v 8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” The greatest connection any of us will ever have, is the one we have with God and so it has been exciting recently to explore what characterises this relationship. Luke reminded us in a Sunday message recently to see God as our loving father, as he unwrapped the parable of the Prodigal Son. Through God’s Spirit we now know God as “Abba, Father” which simply expresses that in God’s eyes we are His children and joint heirs with Jesus; God wants us to have a warm, affectionate, personal relationship with Him. While I was away, I discovered another dimension to this personal relationship in Isaiah 62.5 “Then God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.” This verse describes God’s joy over his people, over you and me, as being like a bridegroom who rejoices over his bride. God isn’t just committed to us … He’s not just faithful to us … He’s not just a great provider, God actually passionately loves us and enjoys us and He is glad to be in such a relationship with us. Holidays may come and go and our experience of life may be tough, but we can be assured that the love God has for us will never end and He rejoices over us with all His heart. This same idea is beautifully communicated in Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Let’s seek each day to meet with God and allow His love to change our lives.
