Another Year Ends

Just recently I have been reading a book entitled ‘Heaven’, in which the author takes scripture and fully describes all that God has in store for us in eternity. One review has claimed that “Other than the Bible itself, this may well be the single most life-changing book you’ll ever read” and so far, I would have to agree. However, it isn’t really the book that has captured my attention on this occasion but the bookmark I was using in it! As I read it, I suddenly realised that we had distributed this particular item at the start of our first service in 2020 and it bears the title ‘God of new beginnings’ followed by this verse from Philippians 3.13b-14 “forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus”. As we asked God to lead us and teach us through 2020, we had no idea what lay ahead in January last year. Take a moment to look back and seek out any highlights and encouragements that you experienced during 2020. What goals did God help you achieve in spite of restrictions? Were there any joys along the way? Perhaps there was someone who encouraged you or helped you when you needed it. Pray and express your thanks to God that, in the midst of the isolation, life has not been empty but that God has provided some moments of blessing. Now focus on this year ahead, a year of new beginnings, and talk with God about your hopes and fears. Remember that all God desires of you is that you love Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind and make that your New Year resolution as you start 2021. Bryan
