Looking After The World

Where would we be in this country if we didn’t have such changeable weather? What would we talk about? Well, this week has certainly made us all focus on the weather – that record breaking heat on Monday and Tuesday! It was a reminder to me, too, that we are not in control. What is true is that God is in control, but also that he chooses us to fulfil His purposes. The effect of greenhouse gases on climate change is getting everyone talking, but how do we deal with it? Scientists are challenging politicians and us to make real changes to our practices and lifestyles. Psalm 24 says “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it, for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” We need to take our role as stewards of all that God has given us seriously, so let’s turn off that tap, let’s reduce our plastic consumption and our dependence on fossil fuels. Show those around us that we care for our world and the people in it. As we listen to Jesus call on our life and share His love with those we meet may we also live responsibly, looking after the earth’s resources that are God given. Saving the planet is not within our power or responsibility. Only Jesus can do that! Earth is our dwelling place for as long as God desires it to be so let’s look after it. Jesus demonstrated His love by His actions, His death and resurrection was to redeem us and the broken world for eternity. Let’s share that love and look after this world until we can join Him in the new heaven and earth!! P.S. We’ve featured a headline in the newsletter since before lockdown. As we look to the future we’re eager to know if we should continue with it so would welcome any feedback as to how you’ve found it or any suggestions going forward.
