We’re All Artists!

Ephesians chapter 2: “8  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  9  not by works, so that no one can boast.  10  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” On Sunday we listened to an introduction to Ephesians by Tom Wright and I was really encouraged by it. I am so thankful that I have been saved by the grace of Jesus taking my place on the cross, that it is a gift freely offered to me and I am accepted ‘warts and all’. This verse reminds us that we are God’s handiwork, that He is creating us to be the person that He knows we need to be in order to be able to serve Him and each other. When I go on holiday, I often enjoy visiting craft shops and art galleries, I love to see the creativity of other people, to see the world through their eyes and I would never imagine that I could be an artist and yet …. if we are God’s handiwork, created for a purpose, then are we not artists weaving God’s love throughout our community? Tom spoke of us being God’s poem or artwork as we use the gifts God has given us to serve others. When I was a Brownie Guide, we used to sing a song called ‘This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine’… one of the lines was ‘Hide it under a bush, oh no, I’m going to let it shine’. In the weeks ahead my challenge is to seek God’s wisdom in how to use the gifts He has given me to create His artwork in the places that I visit, I’m not going to hide them. Will you be up to the challenge of developing your artistry? Ali
