Are you OK? Are you OK?

John 13:34-35. 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Amazing scripture. As a group of us came together for a safeguarding course last week this verse was used to set the tone for the course. I know that I for one have continued to draw on it as I reflected on what we learnt. As we heard about the responsibility we all have to keep our church community a safe place, I thought I would share an idea that was presented. Asking those we know twice: are you ok? Once is an easy, yes, but repeating the question can often help people to open up. Lynda Bolam is our Safeguarding Co-ordinator and we can all help by supporting her as she works to keep our community safe. I ended the course reflecting on this verse John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” What a privilege to have Jesus as the authority in our lives and it does indeed provide a light in amongst many areas of darkness.
