Bring on 2021. Great encouragement with a few blips

As we start on the book of Ruth during our Sunday morning Zoom sessions, we read how much family loss impacted on Ruth. During this pandemic we often hear about how the virus infects a whole family.  Yet in verse 8, despite this despair, we learn of kindness from Naomi’s daughters-in-law: ‘Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home. May the Lord show you kindness, as you have shown kindness to your dead husbands and to me.” We need to remember to show kindness as we commence another time of lockdown and anxiety.  In verse 16: ‘But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.’ I recognised the commitment of Ruth’s words and these encouraged me to remain committed in my actions, and how we share our faith and hope in God.

Looking to the New Year of 2021 we have some amazing encouragements and discoveries. As well as the vaccine (hurrah!), West Denton Church has launched a YouTube channel (see above) to give everyone who looks at the website a chance to hear from our speakers.  The first speaker is Bryan Spurr, our Lead Elder, and he helps launch the New Year by looking at the first chapter of Ruth.  If you get a chance, please listen and send any questions through to  This would encourage us greatly. Our family at West Denton Church recognises the difficult times in our community and we hope this video channel on our website will enrich your visit to our page and help your relationship with God.
