The Perfect Father

2 Corinthians 6:18:“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

This Sunday we celebrate our fathers and those who have been father figures in our lives. For many this is a difficult day, not everybody has a living father figure in their lives and for others their earthly father may not have been a good role model. As a parent and grandparent myself I appreciate how difficult this parenting role is, I certainly have (and continue to) make mistakes; there is never any doubt that I love my children and grandchildren but in my humanity I make mistakes.

When I said ‘Yes’ to Jesus and accepted Him as my saviour I was welcomed into His family and could call God ‘Abba’ or Daddy. I have had to learn not to limit my understanding of God by my experience of my earthly father; He knows me warts and all and loves me unconditionally. He wants the best for me and wants to bless me with what He knows I need.

As we celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday let’s not limit God’s ability to father us and let’s move forward into His embrace and keep Him as our focus. Ali
