What’s in a Name?

What’s in a name? Well, quite a lot actually. I’ve been thinking about the importance of names since our focus last Sunday in church. So many people, including me, look at the Bible as a sort of rule book, something that tells us what to do, how to live or more likely what not to do – a list of “ thou shalt nots”, but what we were reminded about on Sunday is that our names are written in the Book of Life. God doesn’t lead us to a book of rules, but to a book of names, the Book of Life! John writing in Revelation about the City of God says only those whose names are written in the Book of Life will enter it. Our amazing God, the creator and ruler of the universe began the world by naming things and people. He calls us by name. He came to Joseph in a dream and told Him the child born to Mary was to be called Jesus. His name tells us who He is, what He did, His character and the power of His father God. His name means “The Lord Saves”! We will have a new church name in a couple of weeks; West Denton Community Church. Not a big change, but a real chance to be the people God wants us to be. There is an open door before us that God has opened and we are being called by name to go through it, to experience more of His love for ourselves and to encourage others to join with us in the name of Jesus! P.S. We’ve featured a headline in the newsletter since before lockdown. As we look to the future we’re eager to know if we should continue with it so would welcome any feedback as to how you’ve found it or any suggestions going forward. Ian.
